World Vision Zambia provides clean water and Education to Mufumbizi Community of Nyimba district

World Vision Zambia in collaboration with dedicated partners and the local community, celebrated the official handover to the Zambian Government of four ablution blocks, four mechanized water systems in primary schools, and a community-based mechanized water system with a capacity of 40,000 litres. These essential facilities represented more than just infrastructure; they embodied positive change and opportunity.

Speaking during the event, World Vision Zambia National Director, Mr. John Hasse, emphasized the significance of this infrastructure in the lives of the children and their families of Nyimba District.

"It is exciting that 2,166 learners, 1,170 girls and 990 boys, will directly benefit from using these facilities. We hope to improve attendance rates, reduce waterborne diseases, and create a more conducive learning environment for our children."

The impact of this initiative extended far beyond the construction of facilities; it was about investing in the future of children, families, and the community as a whole. By providing clean water and sanitation, this project contributed to the well-being of Nyimba District and paved the way for a brighter tomorrow.

The 40,000-liter community-based mechanized water system in the heart of the Mufumbizi community was a testament to World Vision's commitment to sustainable development. This project has  55 tap stands and benefited 1,600 people in three villages. It exemplified the empowerment of communities to manage their resources efficiently and equitably, ensuring a sustainable, long-lasting solution.

"At World Vision, we believe that every child deserves access to clean water. It's the essential building block of life that allows children and their communities to survive and flourish."

World Vision worked hand in hand with local communities, building water points and ensuring their management through trained water committees. These committees played a vital role in collecting water user fees to maintain and repair the mechanized systems, guaranteeing the sustainability of these essential resources.

This remarkable achievement highlighted the power of partnerships and community dedication, demonstrating that by working together, we could overcome challenges and make a significant impact on the lives of those who needed it most.

His Royal Highness Chief Ndake, a long-standing partner with World Vision for over 15 years, expressed his heartfelt gratitude, particularly for the positive impact on children and vulnerable communities.

He urged local communities and schools to safeguard these facilities for a lifetime.

The Permanent Secretary of Eastern Province, Mr Paul Thole, commended World Vision Zambia's cooperation and effective collaboration with local authorities in Nyimba.

"We are very pleased with the gesture from World Vision as this is in line with our National Development plans of ensuring equitable access to clean and safe drinking water," said Mr Thole. "Water is fundamental to the development of this nation, as we all need water to thrive in all settings."

He recognized the far-reaching benefits these initiatives would bring to the community, from improved education to enhanced access to clean water.

Nyimba District stands as an example of what can be achieved when dedication, partnership, and the common goal of providing clean water and improved education come together. This is a story of hope, a story of transformation, and a story of the sustainable future created when we worked as one. It serves as an inspiring testament to the potential for positive change in communities through collaborative efforts and a shared commitment to a better tomorrow.
